Vintage 2009 was a great vintage in Andau. A beautiful Indian-summer with grapes that were perfectly sain gave birth to a splendid vintage characterized by deep fruit and fine spiciness!
December was affected by a lot of snow and cold temperatures which froze up the Neusiedlersee for a long time. This long winter lasted until the end of February but even March showed with cooler temperatures. In April spring could not be held back any more and the vines began their vegetative cercle.
Despite the drought in spring the rootstocks were growing quite fast and at the end of May blossom of the vines was already finished – this indicated an early harvest. A hot and humid June did not bring only our vines but also us to sweat and we hardly were able to manage the work in the vineyards. In August sun came up more frequently and the vines could assimilate plenty of sugar.
At the beginning of September the outside-work had began with wonderful sunny weather. We started harvest very relaxed and had the grapes matureto the optimum. We first brought in Muskat and Sauvignon Blanc followed by Grüner Veltliner and Pinot Noir. Harvest was followed by excellent quality of our most important varieties – St. Laurent and Zweigelt. Interrupted by a short break we continued harvesting the grapes for Zweigelt Reserve and Blaufränkisch and could finish the main harvest by beginning of October.
Our white wines are characterized with deep fruit, spiciness and appear powerful and balanced. Red Wines of 2009 have an unbelievable dark colour and shows deep fruit with great structure and fine acidity. Our top vintage 2009 is crowned by a Beerenauslese from Scheurebe and Eiswein from Grüner Veltliner.
We are looking forward to a classical and top vintage from the winery ZANTHO.
