What means Zantho?
The earliest documented evidence of Andau dates back to the year 1488. The village, a German settlement, was listed under the name of Anthwaw, or Zantho. In a document from the year 1525, the name Zantho appears again. This is an old Hungarian word meaning "farmland". By 1546, the village's name had changed to Annthau, a German form of the word.
