“Second hottest year since 1768…”
– Centre for meteorology and geodynamics
2015 began rather normal in the Seewinkel district: a changeable winter until beginning of March followed by spring like temperatures. Nevertheless 10 out of the 12 months had higher temperatures than in the long-time average. Mai was warm with enough rain and brought an explosive growth – blossoming already began end of May. Beginning of July already showed the first heat waves with temperatures up to 38°C – Luckily, we had enough rain – so the vines could grow without further problems. Mid July came the second heat wave and with the absence of rain – this occurred until August – the grapes ripened extraordinarily – because of the heat and the drought the berries stayed small, were healthy and got a really thick skin – perfect for our red wines. We had to harvest the white grapes a bit earlier than usual in order to maintain the acidity and the fruitiness. We were able to finish our main harvest end of September and were even awarded with an excellent sweet wine harvest in October. Without a doubt, this vintage counts as one of the extraordinary ones and will stay in our heads for quite a while.
