„A Zantho premiere.“
– Quote about the first vintage.
The winter of 2001 was mild and dry – even spring was mild and brought us an early bud burst. Blossoming at the end of May happened without further difficulties. A cold spell in June brought the vegetational growth of a vines to a halt. The month of July was signified by unsettled weather – it began hot and dry and ended cold and wet. Summer only showed its face in August – it took a while for the sun to come out. Our berries needed until mid of September to achieve the needed sugar levels and physiological maturity. An optimistic mood was in the air – but then came the wettest September in 75 years. The cooler temperatures stopped further damage and the spread of rot could be contained. The sun came back out at the end of September and warm winds started to blow in our district. About the right time – it dried off the berries quite well!
