In 2018 everything began a bit earlier – the bud burst, the blossoming and even the harvest season. That was probably due to the hot weather – the wintertime just would not start and only showed up in March for a short period of time. End of April we already had temperatures of around 30°C – resulting to a very early budburst. The long-lasting drought could not be compensated by the few regional showers occurring throughout the Seewinkel district. By that our berries stayed really small and concentrated. A short cold spell in August came at just about the right time for the ripening stage. The summer of 2018 came with extremely hot days – thereby we were only able to harvest before noon – thin skinned grape varieties were harvested as early as possible and the cellar had to be cooled down in order to maintain the fruitiness of the grapes.

Conclusion: a surprisingly good vintage shaped by the heat, drought and an early harvest – surprisingly fresh with medium alcohol levels. The sweet wines of this vintage are to be put into the highest league!
