It was definitely not an easy year – everything was going after plan – a mild and rainy spring filled up the ground water reservoirs. Even the bud burst at the end of April was around average and the growth of the vines was vigorous. Then it got cooler, slowing down the blossoming phase – in some parts it even caused shatter making the grape bunch loose and bringing low yields. The sun did not really come forward that summer. Lucky for us, our region is generally warm, and our berries ripened nicely anyway. Rot pressure was quite high, and we had to carry out precise grape selection in the vineyards. Yield was therefore 30% lower than usual. Nevertheless, the berries were very healthy, and we were happy about that. These quality measures were the cause for our smile at the end of the very demanding vintage.
