„I love rain. Because if I wouldn’t it would still rain anyway.”
– quote fitting the strong rainfalls of 2011
The year began with a very touch winter – the thermometer went down to about -20°C. The vines were definitely fighting. We waited until the beginning of March to get some warmer weather. Nevertheless, the warm weather and the rainfalls brought us a 2-weeks-earlier than usual bud burst. The good weather was here to stay – the combination of heat and precipitation was enough to accelerate the growth of the vines. The month of May spared us with late frosts – so what naturally followed was a perfect blossoming period beginning of June. July was a whole different story: high temperatures of 36°C in the first half and summer thunderstorms with a lot of rainfall in the second half. The head start from the beginning of the year evaporated. Summer came back at the end of August with plenty of sunlight and warm winds. Harvest conditions were perfect! We started harvesting at the beginning of September – grapes were healthy and matured with record breaking sugar levels! Even the yields were satisfactory! First time in our history we were able to finish the whole harvest in September! An outstanding vintage – balanced and full of harmony!
