„Luck is mostly a collective term for efficiency, cleverness and preserverance.”
– Charles Kettering
Winter showed extremely dry and warm – climatic change knocked on our doors early this year. Our vines went early into their vegetative circle due to the mild temperatures. We saw some local frost end of March and mid-April which caused light damage. The extreme drought together with the frost lead to an uneven bud-break. It was extremely important to remove weak and excessive shoots early to relieve our vines. End of May we had sufficient rainfalls until mid-June and our vines were supplied with enough water during this important vegetative period. Chilled weather conditions in June caused a long flowering period which lead to substantial variations in the ripeness of individual grapes. It was therefore essential to remove delayed green grapes in order to reduce quantity in grand style and reach a more harmonious ripeness level. Summer showed balanced and not too hot. Luck is with the hard-working and harvest month September showed stable with warm winds during the days and chilled nights already which was perfect for the development of fine aroma and perfect physiological ripeness. Patience has been paying off and we could harvest very satisfying qualities at slightly smaller crop. Vintage 2020 shows perfectly “classic” – deep fruited with perfect freshness and balance at moderate alcohol levels. Definitely a quaffable vintage to enjoy folks!
